Vitsœ shelves adorn more Monocle walls
1 November 2011

Longtime Vitsœ customer Monocle has continued its voyage into previously unchartered waters with the opening of a café in Tokyo on 15 October 2011.
The Monocle Café, which occupies the basement space at eight-floor department store Hankyu Men’s, shows precisely the level of attention to detail one would expect from this notoriously discerning brand.
The understated interior sees our shelving system sitting pleasingly alongside natural materials crafted using traditional techniques.
“We’ve long been interested in doing a cafe and are excited by the prospects of doing something with such a talented team in Tokyo,” said Tyler Brûlé, Monocle’s editor in chief. “We want the Monocle Café to offer the best tastes and experiences found on our editors’ travels and this means great coffee, cozy classic dishes and excellent desserts.”
The 2,600 square foot space is also home to a Monocle shop where apparel, curios and, of course, magazine back issues can be bought.
Brûlé’s team currently operates Monocle Shops in London, Hong Kong, New York, Beijing and Osaka, all of which use our shelves to display their wares.
